"Between Shades of Gray" Book Review
Wow I’m back again hehehe
And with another English version
of my book review
The title of the book is “Between Shades of Gray”
SYNOPSIS
This book tells a story following
the life of Lina, a painter girl from Lithuania, that has to be deported from
her own country and forced to work as a slave. Not only she and her family,
there are also thousands of people from different ages and condition that has
the same fate. At first they don’t know one another, but as they struggle
together to stay alive they get closer like a family that protect and take care
of each other. And as the situation got worsened and their number decreasing,
the world feels darker than it was before. Is the littlest hope that they
carefully save inside their heart enough to make them holding on and fight for
surviving?
REVIEW
This novel is just so beautiful
It’s elegant yet cruel, full of despair but also contains a
lot of hope in between
But really, I already got captivated from the first page
I actually really love books or movies about war, even more
if it’s based on real history
And this book is one of the best (thumbs up)
The strength of this book in my
opinion is the writing style
Every sentence is beautifully
written and the selection of words is also nicely done
So it feels so smooth following
the storyline, even though it was pretty fast paced
I especially love how this book
can convey every character’s feeling
There are a lot of side characters,
and even though the main POV is Lina, we’ll still be able to feel what other
character feels
And the writing about the events
that happen to the deportees make it feels so real
Maybe because even though this
book’s genre is historical fiction, the author did a research from the survived
deportees or their family members that still alive. So this fiction book is
based on real fact
And we’ll get that goosebumps and
sad but awe felling when we’re reading it
I really can’t imagine how these people
live at that time
They have to do hard physical
work in the morning but only got little food ration…
They can’t sleep peacefully…
In winter they didn’t get a coat
or anything warm…
If one of them is sick they didn’t
get proper treatment…
And yet some of them survives
There are several scenes that I like
Especially scenes that show how
these deportees bond together and keep each other’s back
There is also the fact that most
of this deportees are educated people
In war, educated people and their
families is considered enemy
And it just feels so real
We can feel how expensive it is
to have an opinion. People’s mind can be used as a weapon so a lot of smart
people got captured
Overall, it was a great experience
I’ll save this novel and maybe
read it again later :)
I recommended this book for
anyone who likes war genre, you won’t regret it
And for someone who doesn’t like
it, it’s ok to read it too
Cause this book is about human
We as a human must have thought,
how far is our limit when it comes to enduring suffering
Human is created to survive, even
though it seems like we don’t have anything, sometimes the thing that we can’t
see can be a source of strength for us
Like relationship that we built with another person or hope that we save in our heart
Happy Reading ^ ^
